Temps week

I have been back at work a week and already I am sick. I spent basically the whole weekend in bed with a fever, congestion and a sore throat. Thankfully I did not feel unwell until Sat morning, because Wemb and I had the lovely pleasure of meeting pfantom and being taken out for dinner at a restauant called tutto bene in south bank. We had a really lovely time. Despite it literally taking hours to find a restaurant and then being late in to meet him, Pfantom was a very gracious host and we had a great time and can’t wait til next time when he is in town.

Hello BoE Crew!!

Long time listener and fan, love the podcast and thank you all for making such a fun show for the rest of us!

I just thought I’d inform you three that you were involved in a car accident in the U.S. – Maine, specifically. I was driving along today, listening to the latest BoE podcast and minding my own business when CRASH!! Another car decided they wanted to go backwards when the rest of us were going forward. Everyone was ok, the vehicles were the only ones hurt. However during the ordeal while looking at damage, exchanging info, sorting out witnesses and all that terribly fun stuff – I could still hear my BoE guys carrying on in my car. Who can be grumpy while hearing Temp’s laughing? You guys made me smile in an otherwise stressful situation and I very much appreciate it.

P.S. I actually work part-time for a hotel, so I think of Wemb and Wych every time I knock on doors and say … yes … “Housekeeping!”

Also booked my flights for Blizzcon which is very exciting.While out on Saturday we went to US Foods here in Melbourne & amongst the mountain of import food we got I bought a tub of Ben & Jerry’s Junky Monkey ice cream: Banana Ice Cream, Fudge Chunks & Walnuts – really good.

I have nor laughed so much and too be honest you have almost caused a few accidents in the car laughing so much, the laser incident especially temp I had to look it up as well.

Well onto WoW I’m a level 80 DK and looking to dual spec at the moment I’m DPS but want to look at Tanking any advice would me wonderful, I do understand that after Cata it will all change and o already have tier 9 tanking set.

Guild Leveling – Guild Perks List

Guild Talents were removed a while back and replaced with Guild Perks.

Reminder from the Cataclysm Press Tour

There are 25 guild levels and each level will automatically reward with an extra perk. The leveling process remains unchanged and your guild will gain experience through PvP, Dungeon and Raid progression, questing, etc …

Guild currency has also been removed and rewards will just be “unlocked” after you reach a specific level or complete a guild achievement. Once a reward is unlocked, members will be able to purchase it with gold. Some of the rewards include guild tabards, mounts, heirlooms, and it looks like you will finally be able to have a guild tabard on your mount. (Just like the Argent Tournament banners)

New members of a guild won’t be able to buy everything directly, they will have to contribute to the progression of the guild before they can access the top rewards. Each time a player helps towards the leveling he will gain reputation with the guild, the best rewards will require players to be exalted with their guild before they can buy it.

Classes – 31-Point Talent Trees and Masteries

Q. With the 31-point tree, many talents still cost two or three points. Is this going to be changed, as it basically increases their cost?

A. For the most part, yes. There are some overpowered talents that don’t need the boost, but many of the others will have their effects increased.

Q. How do the mastery bonuses work now that they don’t show up on the talent interface anymore?

A. The mastery bonuses will be trainable passive bonuses somewhere around level 75. Each talent specialization will have a different Mastery available on the trainer with a base potency with 0 Mastery Rating. The character sheet interface will have additional information on the additional potency gained from Mastery Rating.

Q. If every specialization is intended to take their 31-point talent, why is it not baseline at the level you could acquire it?

A. Those talents are a good “brass ring” to work towards. They often change your character pretty dramatically when you get them, so it’s a fun moment. There is definitely an interesting philosophical discussion about talent trees and how many talents should be mandatory vs. optional. Some players would like a model where everything is on equal footing with everything else. Others want to make sure there are some safe decisions so that they don’t have to do tons of theory-crafting research every time they talent their character. We are trying to shoot for something in the middle where we have some expectation for how a particular spec will play (for example, we don’t want to have to develop and support the non-Chaos Bolt Destruction rotation) but players can still decide if say Blitz is something their Arms warrior will use or not.

Q: How will pets scale with Mastery their masters’ Mastery?

A. The talent specializations that rely heavily on pets (Beast Mastery and Demonology, for example) have a Mastery that makes Mastery rating also increase pet damage. Other specializations that have pets, but whose pets do not benefit from Mastery, will have their Masteries balanced accordingly, taking into account that pets will not benefit from them.

Q: Will there be a “hard cap” for Mastery rating (to avoid having 101% chance of getting a critical block, for example)?

A, In the course of finalizing all of the Masteries for the various talent specializations, we will make sure that, in the expected gear a player can acquire from the final Cataclysm raid tiers, the player will not crash into a “hard cap” unless they go out of their way to stack Mastery more than is reasonable. This may require redesigning some of the Masteries as the rest of the class designs are finalized.

Q: Ever thought of changing tiers to unlock with 3 Points instead of 5, now that 5 tier talents are gone?

A. We considered this idea, but ultimately decided against it.

Q: Are we going to be able to view the Mastery talent previews for Cataclysm soon as we can currently?

A. With the talent tree redesign, all the Masteries need to be re-implemented, and, in some cases, redesigned. This will require at least a couple of weeks before they will be available on beta.

Q: Can you provide some clarity on the 3rd Mastery that is affected item stats?

A. We recognized the earlier implementation of Mastery in the beta was confusing. Mastery is no longer directly associated with a talent tree, but is instead a passive effect learned from a trainer at a later level. That passive effect will now grant the third Mastery bonus you formerly saw in the talent tree pane. The passive effect will have a base value, and then Mastery rating will increase that effect further. The other two Mastery bonuses previously listed at the top of the talent tree pane have been removed, but, in some cases, have been reimplemented as passive specialization bonuses. Currently, in the beta, you cannot see any of the Masteries, as they need to be reimplemented after the talent tree redesign.

Q. Why not make each tier a 3-point system instead of 5 to advance?

A. We considered this and decided against it.

Q. Will we see these talent changes in Wrath of the Lich King, before the release of Cataclysm, like we did with the last expansion?

A. Yes.

Q: It was said that players would be allowed to choose based on their play style. Do you believe fewer talents will accomplish this?

A. The talents that we are pruning are typically things like extra strength or coefficient boosts to spells. It’s hard to have a different play style based on talents like that. We are trying to keep the talents that really change gameplay. A Retribution paladin that feels like he can help out healing on 5-player dungeon runs might take the two-point talent to improve healing. A Protection warrior who tanks a lot of 5-player dungeons might want talents that help with AoE pulls, while one that is a raid off-tank might want, say, Safeguard and Vigilance instead.

Q: With the new 31-point tree system, how will players use dual-specialization? Do we get to choose a new tree when we first use our secondary specialization (off-spec)?

A. You can use dual-specialization for a different specialization in beta, if you choose, much as you can today. We are going to lower the level at which you can use dual-specialization, as well as the cost for purchasing it, because we recognize that using Dungeon Finder while leveling is likely to be popular.

Crazy Train.

Temp: Crazy Train are still rocking their way through ICC. We are working on a 4 day rotation atm, so 4 nights in, then reset, that might change soon. We are definitely at the business end and I want to get Putricide and Sindragosa down.

Wych: DPS team are doing well & the gap between 1st & 5th is very slim, the brown wall now has a solid line of blue & green. Also enjoying the utility job in Blood Princes’ although it kills my numbers.

Other Raids.

Temp: Ironman: Wemb tanked for us this week, they had already done the first 4 bosses which was a shame because I wanted the weekly on my priest, but oh well. We did fine on trash but had a tough time on the boss and Wemb was taking significant damage, so we did not manage to get another boss down.

I also had the pleasure of filling in on a paranoid run into ICC on my extremely undergeared rogue. We managed to get 4 down before i think Teo called it in frustration. It is not like their runs to be so frustrating, but they have lost quite a few members recently and it has impacted their progress, which makes me sad because they were soooo close to downing the Lich King, but they will get there, I know they will.

Heroics

Pugs.

Temp: I wanted to mention one pug of note. I have had a couple of beauties lately – featuring would you believe Halls of Stone. The one I want to talk about was last night, almost at the final boss, a boe blue drops, the tank asks if he can roll need on it for his guild … ahhh NO … I rolled de (which I normally would not, but oh well) and then another dude starts saying we rolled the same, roll off and does a /roll. The next thing I know he is opening a trade window, we rolled the same he says … It is at this point (cause loot is so important to me doing a random heroic) that I realise I was the one that rolled highest with the dude and he was expecting me to hand over the dream shard. So he whispers me, we rolled the same and I said yes, and the random generator gave it to me, he goes on, it is not random, roll on it. I said, no matter what you think, I have it and I am keeping it.

Pants On Head Guild.

Guild Status: 399 toons/185 accounts.

Paranoid are still at 11/12 and in a rebuilding phase.

Crazy Train are at 9/12 and have Putricide down to 2%

Ironman are at 5/12 and continue to progress and grow their core group.

POH25 – Sadly our last run was cancelled but there is another scheduled for 31st July.

I have scheduled our first officer meeting – EVER for Friday at midday. You two clearly don’t need to attend, but hoping to just have a chance to regular meet up and exchange information between all officers – of course I will report back anything important to you two! I think this means that our guild is growing up!

Temp: Noob of the Week

There are 2 nominations this week and i am going to have to let the listeners decide because well … I am involved!

1. I was doing a random heroic with Ashayo on Pud … not far into it, I pull agro, this NEVER happens to me. A little bit later, I pull agro and Ashayo doesn’t get it back and i die. A bit later the shadow priest pulls agro and dies, then i pull it and Ashayo says, have you got a death wish or something … and I say i don’t understand I have never had threat management issues … a bit later the threat meter goes off again and I ice block which normally sends me plummetting down the meter, but this time I am still at the top for like seconds, then I notice the next in line is the shadow priest and i say WTF, this is CRAZY, there is something wrong! Then Ashayo says … ummm maybe i should swap to Frost Presence! I say are you serious and he says yes I have no idea how or why but I was in blood presence!

2. We raided last night on Crazy Train, we did the Blood Princes and the blood queen … it did not go as smoothly as it could have but we got it done. I am quite used to being the first person bitten, if not then, definitely the second, last night I could not figure out why I was not until round 3 … my dps seemed ok, not out of the park but ok … This morning I realised that last night during that heroic with Ashayo and for our entire raid, I was wearing my chefs hat, which means that I not only were there no stats on my head piece but I was also not getting my 2 piece tier 10 bonus.

So the listeners can twitter us and decide who was the noob of the week …

My Team Johnson priest hit 30 and is glad that she has passed the level for gnomer /shudder. I am now spending time in the Scarlett Monastery Graveyard.

Temp: Today I left Orgrimmar … I flew down to thousand needles, I did not look around much it was just very strange.

I also ran the first part of the human starting zone, cataclysm has not happened there yet, but there are new quests there and things are already different! I then went exploring with Ashayo, we went back to orgrimmar, and out the back door … yes the back door that leads straight into Azshara! What a fun time we had playing with the new rocketway that takes the long ride out of Azshara … it is really good fun and you can jump off at any point! AWESOME fun!
